about
Home is the third official release and second full-length album by Greenville, SC post-rock-slash-alt-pop project Black Spots.
All album artwork and liner notes are included with the full album download. The album is free to download.
"Home is meant to be listened to in its entirety from beginning to end, much more so than previous Black Spots releases, while each song still retains independence enough to be enjoyed as a single.
Regardless, please enjoy this recording however you see fit. I enjoyed every single second of writing, planning, and recording this album and I poured every ounce of myself into it. It is a very personal project for me. I don’t want to say much more about it but rather hopefully the music will speak for itself. Thanks so much to everyone who has listened, downloaded, or bought my music, or came to see Black Spots play. Love, Justin"
From the liner notes:
"This album is for my family.
Thanks to Josh McCain and Laura Kate Steadman for putting up with me making them listen to every version of these songs as they evolved and became this album, and for jamming and helping me write these songs. Thanks to Dave Galloway for rocking out with me on my birthday last year and for lending me a bass guitar. Thank you profusely to Merle King for the beautiful 12-string bass guitar you gave me years ago and for making me promise to use it, perform with it, and record with it. Thanks to Zach for the delay pedal that helped me write the original idea for 'Water' and for being my brother. Thanks to Robert and Grayson for being continually inspirational and making me want to be a better person. To all my friends who have ever listened, came to see us play, or supported me in any way - thanks so much. Thanks to all the tragically hip girls of the world. Thanks to R.E.M. for first making me want to write and record music. To Madeleine L'Engel for writing 'A Wind in the Door'. Thanks to my mom for supporting me in everything I've done and for teaching me love and compassion, and for literally everything (the mandolin!). Thanks to my dad for showing me how to make music and put your self into it, and for the acoustic guitar that changed my life, and for literally everything. And a special thanks to my Grandma Green, for pretty much making me everything I am, for which I am eternally grateful. Rest in peace.
- Justin"
